W&B have been specialising in groundworks and the installation of drainage & pipelines, of all sizes and depths, for over 30 years.

Our skill set spans both the building and civil engineering sectors including housing, roads, highways & utilities. We have diversified over the last decade to incorporate hard landscaping into our portfolio of experience.

We are a privately owned, family run, business that can provide a comprehensive package of all activities required to bring your project up to ground level. We have CHAS & SMAS accreditation and have been a Constructionline Gold member since 2018. All of our operatives are CSCS and/or CPCS qualified.

THE HISTORY OF W&B
CIVIL ENGINEERING

Phil Worrall returned from farming in New Zealand and began to work for Daniel Brothers installing pipelines throughout the UK.

During these years he also spent time working for Dave Bissell, a local Lancashire contractor, these schemes would see him working away from home for months at a time.

Phil borrowed £9,000 from his father in law, George William Batty to purchase his first digger, an Orenstein & Koppel (O&K) RH4. Worrall & Batty (W&B) Plant Hire was born.

Iain Maguire met Phil whilst working on a scheme at Langthwaite Reservoir. 1994 saw the start of a long-standing relationship.

Iain remains with the business today as W&Bs Works Manager, his commitment has played an integral role in growth of the business. Iain’s work ethic represents what W&B is all about – determined, fair and conscientious. He is highly respected by his peers and colleagues and continues to drive jobs forward from start to finish to deliver for our clients.

W&B Plant Hire began working in conjunction with John Mckillen (Faro Construction) on large schemes at Stone Retail Park & Knutsford Services.

This 10-year partnership saw many standout jobs for W&B, including Manchester United Old Trafford Stadium & their training academy at Carrington.

This 10-year partnership saw many standout jobs for W&B, including Manchester United Old Trafford Stadium & their training academy at Carrington.

W&B and Faro Construction amalgamated under W&B Plant Hire, the business doubled in size almost overnight.

John’s son, Brendan Mckillen, and Faro’s two longest serving operatives Hughie Mctague & Eddie Mcdaid are still laying pipes with W&B to this day. Hughie & Eddie have both worked in the industry for over 50 years!

W&B and Faro Construction amalgamated under W&B Plant Hire, the business doubled in size almost overnight.

Time for change... W&B Plant Hire is to be rebranded to W&B Civils.

Over time we have stepped away from our plant hire roots and moved towards deep drainage and excavation, we felt that civil engineering encompasses more what we do today.
